The most important question, how much will it cost?
Every system is different due to installation size and type i.e flat roof, pitched roof. Also the access can also affect the price. However we are very competitive and are not a pressure sales company so please feel free to contact us via our ‘my roof finder‘ page…
Are there any grants available?
Grants are currently not available for Solar PV due to the hight level of the Feed-in Tariff however, there are grants available for Solar Thermal installations under the RHI scheme.
Is there enough sun in the UK for solar to work?
Actually, the amount of sunshine hours we have in the UK annually is equal to Germany, the country that has the most amount of solar installations in the world. Even on cloudy days solar panels will continue to produce electricity.
How long do solar PV systems last?
Solar panels are expected and have proven to work for up to 40 years with the panels carrying a manufacturers’ performance guarantees for 25 years.
Is Solar Power new and untested technology?
Solar power was first discovered in 1839 with the first production panel made in 1882. The major development of solar panels was during the space race as solar photovoltaic panels could be seen on the satellites as they were needed for power as they orbited the earth.
Isn’t solar power expensive?
It used to be! However, if you now take into consideration all the factors its very affordable. For example, your electricity bills will be largely reduced plus you will receive the benefit of a 25 year revenue stream and have the opportunity to receive some where around a 9% return on your investment. In addition the value or price of your house will increase as a result of having solar panels whilst also making your home more desireable to potential purchasers. If fuel prices continue to rise, the most energy efficient homes, especially those with renewable power generation capabilities are likely to continue to sell at a premium.
How long will the panels take to pay for themselves?
The average system installed smaller than 4kW will take around 9 years to repay taking into consideration the Feed-in Tariff and also the reduction in your household electricity bills especially with energy due to rise uncontrollably over the coming years.
Do they require lots of maintenance?
Photovoltaic panels have no moving parts and therefore their maintenance requirements are little more than being washed down periodically. Solar panels are a reliable, tested technology which is reflected by the manufacturer’s long term guarantee of performance.
Do I need planning permission?
Under permitted development rights domestic properties do not need planning permission, unless it is in a conservation area or it is a listed building. If planning permission is required, Live Solar will fulfill and manage this process and ensure prior to an installation that planning permission is approved.
Will my roof be strong enough for the additional load of a solar system?
Live Solar panels are incredibly lightweight and with the engineering behind the fixing brackets the weight is spread evenly.
How long does it take to fit?
Of course each system is different but most can be installed in three days including erecting scaffolding for access.
How much energy do I need?
According to widely quoted figures, including those from the Energy Saving Trust, the average three bedroom house consumes around 3,300 units of electricity, or kilowatt hours (kWh) a year.
Will it affect my existing electricity or my choice of electricity supplier?
Upon installation your supply be affected, for no more than half an hour, also your still free to change your energy supplier at any time.
How do I know its working?
Live Solar will install a generation meter so you can monitor on a daily basis what your producing and using within your home.
